Under the current Covid-19 situation working from home is now part of many people’s daily lives. Whereas, normally you’d go to work in a lifeless office with only a potted cactus and a personalised mug as your only home touches now you need a space within your own home. Simon Charles Interiors, a North Yorkshire based Luxury Interior Design Studio, are here to help you create a working space that helps motivate and inspire you whilst also being comfortable and stylish.
Some people are lucky to have a dedicated home office where creating a clear working atmosphere can be easier. However, this is not an option for everyone. If it is possible, create a space that is dedicated to your home office. You do not need a large space just somewhere that is defined away from the rest of the madness of home life. Investing in a proper desk and adjustable chair will make all the difference to your working from home set up. These do not have to be large bulky items but can certainly be stylish as well as practical. Doing this will make all the difference over working at the kitchen table as they provide you with a space to call your own and will be much more comfortable in the long run. A quick online search will reveal lots of possible options and if space is really tight there are folding desks that will easily suit your space and needs. What ever your set up, it is important to have a chair that allows you to sit at the right height to your ‘desk’ as to avoid back pain that could become a problem with prolonged working from home without the correct furniture
We recommend choosing a light airy space (no under stairs cupboards for you) where you do not feel claustrophobic. Avoiding dark oppressive colour schemes will also help create a soothing working environment. Natural light is key, especially in the summer months to suppress that feeling of missing out on the sunshine, but artificial lighting will also play a part. Consider purchasing a daytime lamp which will provide a more natural light and will be particularly beneficial if you have to work later in the day. If you decide against this option, make sure that the lighting in your house is not so dark that it causes you to become drowsy and you don’t strain your eyes. On the other hand, lighting that is too bright can be off putting and is likely to give you headaches.
If you are not able to have a dedicated office room storage is important, you need to have somewhere to store important papers. This reduces clutter around the home and means that everything can be easily found. You want to make sure that your work does not spill too much into your home and can be separated from your relaxed homelife as well as out of reach of sticky hands. There are some great storage boxes on the market that are not only practical but can enhance the look of your home interior design.
Hopefully these tips will enable you to create a space that works perfectly as a working from home space but can also add to your home interiors in a way that is stylish and practical not just now but in years to come.
The right working space set up could even enhance the quality of your zoom meetings background!
